Problem 1 · Percents
What is 25% of 40% of 200?
Work from the inside out: find 40% of 200 first.
40% of 200 is 80, and 25% (one quarter) of 80 is 20.
Problem 2 · Ratios
In a class of 24 students, the ratio of boys to girls is 3 : 5. How many girls are in the class?
A 3 : 5 ratio means the class splits into 3 + 5 = 8 equal groups.
24 ÷ 8 = 3 students per part, so there are 5 × 3 = 15 girls (and 9 boys).
Problem 3 · Geometry
Two angles of a triangle measure 47° and 68°. What is the third angle?
What do the three angles of any triangle add up to?
The angles of a triangle add to 180°, so the third angle is 180° − 47° − 68° = 65°.
